When in Rome, do as the Romans do. And the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer was spotted doing exactly the same during his recent visit to the capital of Italy. Rome has been one of the favorite tourist destinations in Europe. But when it comes to his playing days, fans wonder if he loved visiting Foro Italico. Because his records here aren’t too pleasing. Recently, Federer was even seen trolling himself about his title-less run in the Italian Open.

The 42-YO tennis legend recently visited Rome for a friend’s wedding ceremony. He posted some of the photos from his recent trip to the Italian capital and here’s what he wrote in the captions.

Roger Federer finally achieves what he couldn’t throughout his illustrious career

Roger Federer was also spotted playing tennis with his friends at the Foro Italico during this recent visit. He wore a white outfit and had a Wilson racket under his arm, does it remind you of his playing days? Roger Federer seems to have been enjoying the outing at the same stadium like never before. He wrote, “Finally won Rome” in the captions on Instagram.

Federer arrived at his friend’s wedding ceremony well in advance of the time. He was also spotted enjoying the ossobuco, panettone, spaghetti, and risotto. Last year, he visited Rome to celebrate his wife’s 45th birthday. Rome looks to be at the top of the list of his favorite tourist destinations. But sadly for the Swiss he had to go empty-handed every time he took part at the Italian Open.

It is one of the two Masters 1000 tournaments that Roger Federer has never won in his career. He reached the finals on 4 occasions out of 17 appearances. In 2019, he made a surprise decision to play in Rome at the very last moment, and that came like a bolt from the blue to his Italian fans. But they were happy to see the legend step onto their court in Rome.

Roger Federer said that his love for Italy and the poor weather conditions in Switzerland made him take this decision. He looked forward to this tournament as a good preparatory event ahead of the French Open. Here’s what he said during his 2019 visit.

“This might be my favorite city in the world” – Federer reflecting his love for Rome

Roger Federer has been traveling to Rome since 1999 or 2000. During an interview during the 2019 Italian Open, he said he loves being here: “At the end of the day, I’m here to enjoy myself, enjoy the city, the food, the fans, the court here in Rome. This might be my favourite city in the world away from Switzerland so this is a special place for me. I also played the juniors in Italy a lot so I love this country and its people. I was really in the mood to come here after Madrid instead of being home and practicing.” But he hasn’t won a single title here.

Does it bother the Swiss tennis star? Federer added, “No, it doesn’t affect me at all. I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t care at all.” Of course, he would have loved to win this tournament but he’s not there to chase records.
