The final match between the world number 2 Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev at the Indian Wells tournament was no less than a thriller movie. With fans already excited at this clash of titans, Alcaraz gave them a show, especially towards the end of the match. His serves and defense shots were defined as ‘ridiculously’ good even by the panelists of the match.

Not to mention Roger Federer’s former coach Paul Annacone, who sang praises of the world number 2 as Alcaraz once again saved his rank against Daniil Medvedev and showed the world why he is a top-seeded tennis player.

Roger Federer’s former coach in awe of Carlos Alcaraz’s ridiculous play at Indian Wells

Carlos Alcaraz had not won any title since last year’s Wimbledon and had sprained an ankle in late February. All in all, not a good outlook for the World No.2 defending his crown at Indian Wells. But rather than doubting his abilities, Alcaraz went home with his first title of the year and clinched the first set against Medvedev easily. By the end, he swung the ball overhead for a shot but did not make contact. And then he sprinted to chase Medvedev’s shot and hit the ball with all his might. It ultimately won him the winning point.

In awe like the rest of us, Roger Federer’s former coach Paul Annacone appreciated Alcaraz’s efforts and praised his play online. He posted about it, “There are some things you just can’t teach. Carlos Alcaraz seems to show us one or two new ones each match.” Further, he also congratulated Alcaraz, giving a shoutout to the Indian Wells WTA winner Iga Swiatek who had her match against Maria Sakkari.

And to think, the Spanish sensation might never have won this without his calm demeanor approaching the game. Alcaraz was trying to focus on the match at hand, despite coming off of an injury, and even Medvedev was impressed by it.

Daniil Medvedev wants Alcaraz to “one day let me play a little bit better here”

It’s been a disappointing few games for Medvedev, who lost out the Australian Open title to young upstart Jannik Sinner. Here went another ATP 1000 title to Indian Wells, but the Russian is not disheartened. Medvedev was sure to point out how brilliantly Carlos Alcaraz defended his Indian Wells crown during his award acceptance.
