The Laver Cup was the brainchild of Roger Federer, the inspiration for which he took from the Ryder Cup in golf. It is one of the few tournaments which is played in teams, along with the Davis Cup. However, there are also some differences between the two tournaments as the formats and time span vary slightly. But, there is another major disparity between the two, one that involves a major factor of all sporting events: prize money.
The prize money for the winning team of the Davis Cup this year is $2.1 million, and the runner-ups get to take home $1.5 million. But the winning team of the Laver Cup only gets to bag $1.5 million, which will be then divided between the six players. The runner-ups of the tournament will earn $750,000. The disparity between each tournament is immense, given their scope.
