Felix Auger-Aliassime is having a dream start to the 2022 season. He put on a courageous display at the Australian Open and reached the last eight where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. Even though he took the opening two sets in that match and had a match point, Felix couldn’t close out the battle.
Putting aside that setback quickly, the Canadian won his first ATP title at ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Sunday. He defeated top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-2 in the summit clash. Celebrations erupted for the World No. 9 and many congratulated him on achieving this feat.

The Canadian Prime Minister took to Twitter and congratulated Felix for winning his maiden ATP title. He said, “Congratulations, Felix Auger-Aliassime, on winning the first title of your career! Something tells me it’s the first of many.”

Felix Auger-Aliassime thanked the Prime Minister for his encouraging words. He said, “Thank you so much. This means a lot.”

After winning his maiden ATP title, Felix was all smiles. He expressed his emotions and said, “First ATP Title. The smile on my face says it all… I’ve felt every emotion on the road here and after today I couldn’t be more focused on all that I envision for my future.”

“Rotterdam is and always be a special place in my career so I hope to be back for many years to come. Thank you all and let’s go for more.”

Felix Auger-Aliassime: Journey in Rotterdam

The Canadian entered the ATP 500 tournament on the back of a strong showing at the Grand Slam Down Under. However, he showed signs of rustiness in his opening round victory over Egor Gerasimov of Belarus. He had to fight hard to overcome his opponent in three sets. Next, the 21-year-old defeated three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in straight sets in round 2.

Subsequently, in the quarterfinals, Felix overcame the challenge of Cameron Norrie. In what was a tricky semifinal battle against the defending champion, the Canadian defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2. In the finals, he got the better of Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to claim his maiden ATP title.
