Online streaming giant Netflix recently came up with a much-awaited tennis documentary called Break Point. While the show garnered mixed reviews, there’s a strange thing happening with the players featured in the show. A group of top players was the focus of the show as they followed their journey on and off the court. However, the talk in town recently is the curse of that series, the majority of players from that show are out of the Australian Open because of some or other reasons. American tennis star Taylor Fritz was also a part of that series.

Nick Kyrgios is out because of a knee injury. Matteo Berrettini is also out of the Australian Open after a fighting first-round loss against Andy Murray. The common thing between them is that they were a part of the Netflix series Break Point. While many are considering it a curse, here’s how Fritz reacted to it.

“I heard about — obviously I noticed the people pulling out of the tournament, but I didn’t know it was a thing like I’m going to lose my first round because I’m in the Netflix show. I didn’t think of that,” Fritz said.

As the American went in with a positive attitude, he was off to a winning start. Fritz defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in an easy four-set match to secure the second-round slot.

Over the years, America has given some of the greatest tennis players of all time. The trend continued with the rise of Serena Williams and Venus Williams in WTA. However, with the fall in the quality of male players, the interest of people in the sport also started diminishing.

Speaking about the reducing craze of tennis in the US, Taylor Fritz claimed that when they are in Europe, people would recognize them and ask for pictures. However, when he steps out in the US, it’s not the case.
