It seems like an iconic rivalry might return for good. In a recent turn of events, Dan Evans has ended his season earlier than expected. Although it is pretty heartbreaking for fans, there is still one reason left for them to be excited about. World’s No.1 Novak Djokovic and British star Andy Murray might face each other because of this.

Andy Murray against Novak Djokovic

Murray and Djokovic share a long-running rivalry that has become a fan favorite. However, it has been over six years since they walked the same court. There was a match scheduled at the last year’s Madrid Open. Although, to everyone’s disappointment, Murray gave Djokovic a walkover because of an undisclosed illness. Is there a new chance now?

Dan Evans declared that he won’t be playing in the Davis Cup finals. It looks like his recovery won’t be over until next season. Journalist Stuart Fraser confirmed this in his latest tweet. He says: “Dan Evans has confirmed that he will not be able to play at the Davis Cup finals next month in Malaga because of the calf injury he sustained in Vienna this week. His season is over.” Since Evans sustained an injury during his match at the Vienna Open, he has retracted his name from the coming Davis Cup finals. This, in turn, will prompt another GBR member, Andy Murray, to take his place.

Although there are many members other than Murray to take this spot, why is he the most suitable one? This question requires a quick look at another star player from the team, Cameron Norrie.

Norrie’s injury pushes Murray to take control.

As per reports, Norrie, similar to Evans, has also sustained an injury. This led him to drop out of the Paris Masters. GBR had put forward four names for the knockouts of the Davis Cup finals. However, with Evans out of the equation and Norrie’s current condition, there are only Jack Draper and Murray left in command.

It is still not clear what is the specific injury Norrie caught. But fans seem pretty excited that there’s a chance for their favorites to have it out finally.

Even though there is no official news that Norrie is out of the Davis Cup finals, it seems highly unlikely that he will return this season. With just a month left for the event, Murray looks the right fit to face Djokovic. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
