Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam title, beating Casper Ruud in the final of the US Open 2022 by a scoreline of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3. Following this win, Alcaraz is all set to go to the top of the ATP rankings when it will be out on Monday. Aged 19 years and four months, the Spaniard will become the youngest world number 1.

Wishes poured in from all over the world as Alcaraz clinched the title. The most important one of them was from Alcaraz’s compatriot and idol Rafael Nadal. Here’s what Nadal and others said about his victory.

Rafael Nadal lauds Carlos Alcaraz

Taking to his Twitter account, the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was all praise for the 19-year-old Spaniard. While he congratulated Alcaraz, the 36-year-old also lauded Ruud for his efforts.

Congratulations @carlosalcaraz for your first Grand Slam and for the number 1. That is the culmination of your first great season that I am sure will be many more! Great effort @CasperRuud98 very proud of you! Tough luck today but amazing tournament and season! Keep going!” he wrote, (Translated)

The winner of the women’s singles title at the US Open 2022, world number 1 Iga Swiatek, also congratulated Alcaraz on Twitter.

Alcaraz plans to have a long run at the top

Speaking about his experience in the past three weeks, the 19-year-old described it as amazing. However, winning a Grand Slam and topping the ranking charts will not slow him down.
