Netflix’s “Break Point” breaks into what we know today as the Uncle Toni Derby. While Auger-Aliassime and Nadal competed against each other in the quarter-finals of the French Open last year, Toni Nadal chose not to take sides in the match. Fans soon followed with their angry tweets and responses against Toni. In fact, looking back at the match now, Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouragatlou has a few things to say and they’re not great.

Mouragatlou is a legendary coach who holds his significance behind several important wins, and not just for Serena. So when he decides to counter the decisions of another legendary coach, we wonder whose side to take. While the match ensued into a cut-throat five-set competition for Nadal, Uncle Toni suffered terrible roasts from tennis enthusiasts across the world. Mouragatlou does not hold a different opinion.
Patrick Mouragatlou questions Toni Nadal’s coaching ethics
According to Mouragatlou, “You commit with a player, it is a professional commitment. The professional commitment says, “I’m going to be with you 100%, a one hundred percent.”
It is clear that Patrick does not side with Toni’s infamous decision to sit in neither boxes during the match. When the match stretched beyond four hours, Nadal went out of the court saying that it is better for him to not watch the game at all.
Mouragatlou continues doubling down his argument, “And I’m going to do everything to help you be the best you can. That’s my job, that’s my role and I take it more than seriously.”
Before the match began, the media was all ears for Toni Nadal to announce who he was really supporting. While Aliassime was confident about being coached by one of the absolute best in the world, Toni told the press, “I’m Rafael’s uncle and he’s more than just a distant nephew. If Felix played against my son… I wouldn’t want him to win. This is the same.”

While on the other hand, Rafa too seemed to be very comfortable with the idea of Toni wanting him to win instead of Felix. Felix remained candid during the questions but his fans were extremely disappointed with Toni’s behavior.
Break Point does justice to the history
Although the odds were stacking up against him, Felix played one of the best matches Roland Garros had ever seen. The 21-year-old player did justice to his “obsession” when he became one of the three players to take the King of Clay to the 5th set in a match at Roland Garros. Although Felix did not have the full support of his coach during the match, he put up a very difficult fight against Nadal.
