World tennis right now is in a transition phase. Over the past two decades, we have seen players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Serena Williams dominate. While Serena retired after the US Open this year, Federer followed her almost a month later. 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam while Iga Swiatek recorded her third, the time has come for the new generation to take it forward. However, the current generation of players still has that desire to play alongside their idols. Recently, in a video from the Tennis Channel, young tennis players including Nick Kyrgios, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Grigor Dimitrov, Daria Kasatkina, Jelena Ostapenko and Alison Riske-Amritraj, spoke about one tennis legend they would love to share the court with.

Here’s whom they chose to play alongside in a mixed doubles match.

Nick Kyrgios and other youngsters choose their mixed doubles partner

As a kid growing up, young players have the desire to play alongside stars they admire. In a recent Tennis Channel video, modern-day tennis players chose their idols for playing mixed doubles. Starting with Kyrgios, the Aussie said, “It’s a tough one. I don’t think me and Ash Barty have teamed up and I think that will be a pretty nice thing to do.”

Up next, Canadian tennis star Félix Auger-Aliassime chose American tennis legend, Serena Williams. “Well, that’s easy, I think, Serena Williams. She has won everything, singles, doubles, mixed doubles,” he said.

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov also selected Serena Williams. While Daria Kasatkina expressed her desire to play alongside Rafael Nadal, Jelena Ostapenko chose to play alongside former American tennis star John McEnroe.

Unlike the others, Alison Riske-Amritraj didn’t have a clear choice and gave two names, Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.

Kyrgios pulls out of remaining ATP tour for the year

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will not be participating in any of the further tennis singles tournaments this year. Earlier, the 27-year-old injured his knee while playing in the Japan Open. The Aussie was set to play against American tennis star Taylor Fritz but unfortunately had to pull out.

Later, World No 21 also announced his withdrawal from Swiss Indoors in Basel and Paris Masters. With this, his singles calendar for the year is almost over. However, he still has a chance to make it to the ATP finals in the doubles category.

This year was one of the best for the Aussie who recorded his best Wimbledon result in his career. He made it to the final, losing out against 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.
