Ben Shelton, the American tennis prodigy, made history at the ongoing Australian Open. The 20-year-old bagged the first win of his career in a major Down Under. Prior to his achievement, Shelton lavished praise on his girlfriend and fellow athlete, Anna Hall. Hall is another up-and-coming athlete in the United States, making her mark in the sporting world like Shelton.

Hall, a heptathlete, has quickly become America’s next great thing in track and field. During his interview, Shelton went on to remark that the two rising talents never cease supporting one another as they strive for success in their respective sports.

Shelton acknowledged that his girlfriend’s success has put pressure on him to perform at a higher level. Despite the challenges, the tennis ace said that he and Hall are supportive of each other and that their relationship has helped him become a better player. Hall, a heptathlete, won the bronze medal at the track and field world championships in Eugene, Oregon in July 2022.

Shelton had followed her performances on his phone while playing in a Challenger competition that same week in Indianapolis. He underlines that he is not the better athletic of the two, even though he has dominated her in pickleball.

During his interview with the New York Times, Shelton shared, “She’s outshining me.

Shelton’s coach, Goldfine also chimed in, saying, “It’s great. Because they challenge each other, and she understands what it takes to be at an elite level.”

Ben defeated Chinese opponent Zhang Zhizhen in five sets to move to the round of 64 where he will face the Chilean tennis player Nicolas Jarry.
