18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has had a spectacular 2021 season. To top it all, he even reached the semifinals at the Winston-Salem 2021 tournament. However, the high-stake match pushed the teenager in a disastrous manner.

Throughout the tournament, Alcaraz showed absolute determination to set his rhythm for the upcoming US Open 2021. Facing Sweden’s Mikael Ymer in the semifinal, Alcaraz picked up a good start to book a seat in the final. But along the way, he lost his footing.

Notably, at 6-5 down in the opening set, the Spanish teenager spiraled down with his game. He even served a double fault when facing set point, causing him to lose the first set 7-5.

Afterward, in the second set, a frustrated Alcaraz received a code violation for ball abuse. Although already a break down, he gave an unexpected twist-ending to his Winston-Salem campaign.

Summing up, Alcaraz gave away a 3-5 lead in the opening set to lose 7-5, 6-3 at the ATP 250 Winston-Salem Open. Consequently, he would now have to regroup more than before to be ready for the US Open 2021.

In a blockbuster Winston-Salem Open 2021 final, Mikael Ymer will go up against Ilya Ivashka for the title. Interestingly, it is a maiden ATP tour-level final for both players.
