In what can be considered the match of the event at the on-going Madrid Open 2022, the epic face off between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals got off a blistering start with Alcaraz completely dominating Nadal and ran away with the first set, 6-2.

Anyone who witnessed Nadal play this year on the ATP tour would definitely realize that the Spaniard has made it a habit of winning matches even after losing the first set. The 21-time Grand Slam champion continued the same momentum as he got off to a quick fire 3-1 lead in the second set.

Just when the momentum was with Nadal, an unfortunate event took place in the crowd. Reportedly, a spectator appeared to have collapsed and the paramedics had to come in to check on the respective person.

As a result, the play was suspended for close to ten minutes as paramedics rushed to treat the person who fainted. Once the play resumed, Nadal capitalized on the momentum he had and didn’t waste time to clinch the second set, 6-1.

Even before the spectator incident, Alcaraz’s camp was concerned when he had to take a medical time-out to treat his leg after an unfortunate tumble. While it could have added to his rhythm going down in the second set, Nadal definitely amped up his game and took the match to a decider.

The much-hyped match at this year’s Madrid Open will be decided in the third set as Rafael Nadal looks quite confident to pull off yet another miraculous victory against his young compatriot.
