According to Eurosport, Taylor Fritz may withdraw from Indian Wells at the final moment. Previously, in the semi-final match against Andrey Rublev, Fritz called a trainer to check on his ankle. The American appeared alright after the checkup as he finished the match with ease.

However, it seems like all was not well for Fritz, as he could probably miss his first BNP Paribas Open final. As a result of his injury, Rafael Nadal could become the four-time champion at Indian Wells. Also, this means Rafael Nadal will win his fourth title in a row in 2022.

According to the latest update, Fritz had to stop his training on Sunday mid-way as his right ankle got injured.

While the exact details are yet to be known, fans can get to see what went wrong for Fritz during the practice session as Netflix’s cameras were capturing every single moment the whole time. For the unknown, the streaming giant is coming up with a docuseries on both the tennis tours after the massive success of Formula One: Drive to Survive.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal also suffered a shoulder injury during his semi-final match against Carlos Alcaraz. So, this could be a blessing in disguise for the Spaniard, as he didn’t look comfortable against Alcaraz despite the win.

If this turns out to be true, it will be a massive blow for the fans who are waiting to witness yet another blockbuster contest between two players in top-notch form.

Fritz had a dream run at the Indian Wells

It seems like Fritz absolutely loves playing here at the Indian Wells. Last year, he reached the semi-final and this year he made it to the final. Incidentally, this was his first-ever Masters 1000 final. No.20, in the ATP rankings, Fritz had a pretty good year so far, as he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, which was his best result in Grand Slams.

Earlier, he also reached his career-high ranking, no.16. According to reports, he could achieve his highest ever ranking (no.15) on Monday. En route to the final, he beat the no.7 seed Andrey Rublev in the semi-final match, where he played incredibly aggressive tennis. Even Rafael Nadal praised Fritz for his attacking tennis. Fans were hoping for another showdown between the two. However, it’s highly unlikely that fans will see a match.

Either way, this has been a fantastic tournament for the 24-year-old. With his talent, he could win more Masters 1000 tournaments in the future, even a Grand Slam title.
