Djokovic was the last to play on Day 3 of the tournament. Additionally, with his match lasting over three hours, it went late into the night. As a result, there is a possibility that Djokovic might have opted for rest in order to be in shape for his do-or-die battle against Tsitsipas. Speculations were also made about whether Djokovic might have suffered some sort of an injury in his marathon match. However, there hasn’t been an update from his camp about it and the actual reason as to why he missed the practice session.
Playing against the local favorite, the crowd was always against him during his match against Sinner. Further, the fans also booed him as controversial action from the Serb triggered them.

While Sinner was serving during his match against Djokovic, a close call went in his favor. However, Djokovic gestured for an overrule from the umpire. This didn’t go down well with the Italian crowd. Boos erupted from the stadium as they condemned Djokovic’s action.
However, later, the replays showed that Sinner had indeed served fault and Djokovic’s overrule appeal was indeed justified. It was a pulsating atmosphere, with the crowd right behind Sinner to prevail over Djokovic.
