The 2024 US Open is still in its early stages and fans can’t catch a breather. Such has been the high-intensity action at the tournament. However, one particular visual caught the attention of the tennis world at the Slam in New York. It is the ‘short’ shorts of Tomas Machac, who is on a giant-killing run. Earlier today, he broke the hearts of the local fans after defeating Sebastian Korda in straight sets. Subsequently, he engaged in a cheeky conversation with the interviewer.

Facing Sebi Korda in the second round, Machac showed no quarter as he took the match in three sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. During the post-match interview, hewas asked about his role in restarting the short shorts trend and if more guys had followed in his footsteps. The Czech Republican star broke into laughter and said, “Yeah some people told me I am the shorts king, it’s really funny. But really I cannot play with long shorts because it’s not comfortable for me. So I play like this. I don’t know if it’s nice or not but it’s a new trend for me, huh?”

Machac’s response went viral and attracted the attention of millions of fans worldwide. Additionally, a Polish bureaucrat, Anna Zofia Niezgodzka, who is a big fan of Iga Swiatek, also took to her Twitter handle and mentioned, “I think I’ll start rooting for Machač, the guy’s playing great. And there’s a team of shorts.”
Interestingly, the Czechia’s trend of short shorts has spread elsewhere too. Danish tennis sensation, Holger Rune, also prefers playing in short shorts. While Machac restarted this trend, he is often seen wearing a shorter version of shorts. He once revealed why he doesn’t opt for bigger shorts.

Tomas Machac’s shorts get shorter and shorter
While the Czech Republican star began his career, he started by playing with much larger shorts. However, over the years, he began feeling comfortable with shorter shorts. At 23, Tomas Machac tasted success at the Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal. Machac approached his sponsors, Joma, and they were more than ready to accommodate the new shorts for him.
Asked about how he started the trend, he said, “I don’t like long shorts. That’s the whole story! I like basketball. I like basketball, but I don’t like long shorts. And it was starting to get worse and worse because I had it short, but it wasn’t enough. So I tried to make it even shorter, shorter, and this is how it ends.

With Machac being comfortable with short shorts, he is able to give it all on the court. He will face the winner of the match between David Goffin and Adrian Mannarino next, and give fans another glimpse at his short shorts.
