Reilly Opelka has been absent from the ATP Tour since August 2022, and his presence is missed at tournaments. But the American player is not planning to stay put any longer. Training to be back to top form, Opelka recently shared a video of one of his routines for fitness. Seeing the intensity of the training regiment, veteran tennis star Venus Williams praised his tenacity.

Williams and Opelka have forged a beautiful friendship over the years. The two are close, to the point where the fans were even speculating about the two dating. However, the speculations turned out to be rumors, but these two are still close friends. With Opelka fired up to return to professional tennis, Williams cheered him on further.

Venus Williams commends Reilly Opelka as he prepares for a comeback

After a hip injury sustained in August 2022, Opelka is yet to play a single game. In terms of rankings, Opelka has fallen out of the top 100. But the player is now back on track. After proper rehabilitation and recovery, he has begun intense training to come back to full fitness. He recently shared a short clip of his training routine on his Instagram page. 

He takes a basketball at the center of the baseline, takes two steps to his right and swings the ball with a forehand motion, and lets it go. The American player repeated the move a few more times and shared the video with the caption, “Stress + rest = growth @pf.francoherrero“. It certainly caught the attention of Venus.

Impressed by his dedication to work with utmost intensity, Venus Williams praised Opelka in the comment section. She wrote, “Wow hulking out! Sign me up! 🔥👏“.

Williams and Opelka’s bond has strengthened over the years, which has also sparked rumors of a romance.

Opelka puts dating rumors to rest

As Opelka and Venus became better friends over the years, rumors of a potential relationship between Queen V and Reilly Opelka started spreading on social media. Many fans speculated that the two were together because of their friendly banter online. However, Opelka squashed the rumors about the two stars being in a relationship. As he shared a photo of Williams and artist Tim Van Laere together, he wrote, “My Mentors” in the caption.
