Loses are always hard to digest. The greatest of players suffer the toughest of losses. Today, it was Novak Djokovic who suffered a heart-wrenching defeat instead of inflicting one on his opponents. The Spanish prodigy, Carlos Alcaraz ended the Serb’s Wimbledon dominance in a classic five-set final.
Moments after the completion of the final, the players regrouped for the on-court interview. As the runner-up, Novak Djokovic went first. The 23-time major champion and 35-time grand slam finalist is no novice when it comes to speeches. However, today, the Serb’s emotions were on full display as his reign of terror finally saw an ending.

Towards the end, after Djokovic had acknowledged the opponent, the crowd, and the organizers, he came to the most important part that is his family. When he moved on to speak about his family, the 23-time major champion broke down. He said, “Nice to see my son still up there, smiling.” Before continuing, he took a small pause and started tearing up.
Djokovic further added, “I love you. Thank you for supporting me. I’ll give you a big hug & we can all love each other. Thank you.” Thus, the world number 2 ended yet another speech in yet another grand slam final on a top note.

Djokovic’s emotions were quite similar to another Wimbledon legend. A certain Roger Federer also broke down in front of the Centre Court back in 2017.
When Roger Federer broke down on the Centre Court
The Swiss Maestro defeated Marin Cilic in 2017 to claim his eighth Wimbledon title. He overtook Pete Sampras’ record and ended his five-year drought in the Championship. It was a really emotional moment for then-35-year-old Roger Federer as he finally laid hands on his favorite trophy after five years. After the post-match presentation ceremony, Federer sat down on the bench trying to let everything sink in. At that moment, he saw his kids in the stands and broke down.
