ESPN is one of the most historic sports networks around the world. The network came up with a way to promote their Sports Center talk shows through comical commercials called “This is Sportscenter”. One of their commercials in 2009 featured Roger Federer and Neil Everett. As Everett left ESPN recently, he talked about the hilarious story that transpired after the commercial aired.
This is not the only comedic commercial in which the Swiss Maestro was featured. Over the course of his career and hundreds of advertisements, Federer has promoted many brands in a comedic and charming manner. Some of his biggest features include Barilla, Mercedes, Lindt Lindor Chocolate, and Roger Federer Foundation.

ESPN Host exasperated by Roger Federer
In 2009, ESPN aired a commercial featuring the Swiss Maestro and Neil Everett, a former anchor with ESPN. Everett, who recently left ESPN, was interviewed about his experiences at the network. He also dived into the commercial with Federer. He recalled that it was his first commercial, and he was the only person in it, aside from Federer.
Everett stated, “Oh yea, it was the Roger Federer commercial. It was the first one I did; I was the only person in it. You know, “Roger if they ranked anchors, what would I be? You know, 1 through 10.” “I’m not sure you’ll be in the top 10, Neal”, and I was able to give him the stinkeye, and I’d say I’d be in the top 10.”
Along with the comedic commercial, he also talked about a story that he can laugh about now. Federer called him a good anchor and invited him to the US Open. Everett agreed with great enthusiasm but never heard back from the former number 1. Everett would soon learn why.

He further added, “What’s really funny about that is that Roger Federer wrote me after that, and he said, “I’ve did some research; you’re definitely in the top 10. Would you like to be my guest at US Open?“

Everett agreed with great enthusiasm but never heard back from the former number 1. Everett would soon learn why. “I’m like, ‘Yeah!’. Wrote him back, ‘Yeah!’, never heard from him. Following up, ‘Yes’. Never heard from him again. I’m watching the US Open, and then they show Roger ‘Oh, there’s Roger Federer’s seat, oh Tiger Woods is there’,” the former ESPN anchor recalled.
The commercial featured Everett asking Federer to rank him if anchors had similar ranks to tennis. Federer refused at first but then went on to say that he wouldn’t rank him in the top 10.

Albeit it happened a long time ago, Everett has more of a reason to remember the commercial than the joke insult.
