‘Slept in a Room With Rafa With Two Small Beds’: Coach Marc Lopez Recalls Favourite Memory With Rafael Nadal

In tennis, Rafael Nadal has been one of the most prominent names. Not many successful athletes in the sport have managed to shape their careers in the manner the 20-time Grand Slam winner has done.

Rafa has won nearly every major honor in this elegant sport. He has won every Grand Slam title and a majority of the big titles over the years. Besides, amongst the big three, he happens to be the only player to win gold medals in both singles and doubles at the Olympic Games.

Fond memories of Rafael Nadal still mesmerize Marc Lopez 

Recently, his partner and compatriot who won the doubles gold medal along with him, Marc Lopez reflected on that proud moment. He appreciated remembering the moment when Rafa trusted him to become his partner. 

He stated, “The Olympic gold medal. We were playing together again. Rafa made a huge effort to play in both disciplines, and he put his trust in me. The experience was very good, not only on the court. We slept in the same room. People don’t realize, but all the tennis players were in one apartment.”

Lopez has joined Rafa’s camp last season remembered some moments that he would never forget. He remembered the way they slept in the same room amongst all other tennis players. They commonly used the same iPad before they went to sleep at night.

The 39-year-old added, “I slept in a room with Rafa with two small beds. We even put a little table in the middle with an iPad to watch something before bed every night. It was really amazing, two intense weeks that ended perfectly with that gold medal.”

At the moment, Nadal is competing in the Australian Open 2022. He has booked a spot in the quarterfinal against a familiar opponent in Denis Shapovalov. We wish him the very best for the remainder of the tournament.
