Then, We Are Tennis gave a tremendous reply to motivate Stan; they said, “Sure you are!”

Although Wawrinka was most probably joking, he may feel skeptical about today’s match. Notably, he won the first match in 456 days in the first round of the Italian Open after beating Reilly Opelka. After going through foot surgery in 2021, he missed playing for over a year. After winning his first match, he talked about his fans and how they helped him massively to get back on track.

Wawrinka vs Djokovic, head to head

In their previous 25 meetings, Novak won 19 and Stan won only six. However, 4 of 6 wins came at the Grand Slam events for the Swiss player. And he beat Novak twice in the final of Roland Garros (2015) and the US Open (2016). Clearly, the 3-time Grand Slam winner has an edge over Novak at the Grand Slam tournaments.

However, Novak has an edge over the Swiss player in the Masters and ATP 500 tournaments. And today is another Masters 1000 tournament, where the Serb can show his dominance. In the previous match, he easily beat the dangerous Aslan Karatsev in straight sets.

In the meantime, after beating Opelka in the first round, Wawrinka faced Laslo Dere in the round of 32. After 2 hours and 48 minutes of marvelous tennis, the Swiss star beat the Serb by 7-6,3-6,6-4 to get his second win of the season. Now, he will face Novak. His old rival and fans are expecting a highly competitive match, for sure.
