Shelton was performing well until his recent defeat, as he overcame the likes of Roberto Bautista Agut and Christopher O’Connell in the first two rounds of the Australian Open. But now that he has faced an early knockout, fans are paying no heed to the current world No. 16 player’s efforts during his campaign.

The renowned tennis journalist José Morgado recently hailed the 35-year-old French player for outclassing Shelton in a five-hour-long game in Melbourne. He tweeted, “35yo Adrian Mannarino into the 2nd week of the #AusOpen for the 2nd time in his life, both in the last three editions. Beats Ben Shelton in almost 5 (!) hours. Playing the best tennis of his life but needed 15 sets in three matches to make it. Next? #1 Novak Djokovic.”
