Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini signed off from the 2023 season after his second-round loss at the US Open, citing injuries. This also meant that he could not play at the Davis Cup for his country, Italy. It proved to be a double heartbreak for the former world No.6, as Italy captured their first Davis Cup title in five decades. But, Berrettini had a pleasant surprise in store for him in finals, courtesy of his compatriot Jannik Sinner.

Berrettini took a 2-month break due to his injuries right after his defeat to Andy Murray at the Australian Open. He then came back at the Mexican Open in March. However, there was no fruitful result for him there, as he couldn’t make it past the quarterfinals. Later, the Italian tennis star withdrew his participation again from the French Open as he went through an abdominal injury.

He then went to Wimbledon where he defeated Alex de Minaur, Alexander Zverev, and Lorenzo Sonego. But in the end, he lost in the fourth round against Carlos Alcaraz. This year surely, he did not have the best of times, but we are rooting for 2024 to be his season.
