Stan Wawrinka hasn’t been in great form and recently suffered another setback. In the first round of the Paris Masters, he lost against the teenage star Holger Rune. More than his demoralizing defeat, his words to the young player during the customary handshake at the net caught everyone’s attention.

The 37-year-old tennis ace is moving closer to the end of his career with every match. Many fans expect him to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Roger Federer. In his career, he has won three Grand Slam titles and competed in major tournaments against some of the sport’s biggest names, particularly the big three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

During the handshake, the Swiss star said, “My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court.”  The 19-year-old’s on-court decision-making did not impress the three-time Grand Slam winner. The irony of the situation was that Wawrinka had already experienced a similar remark when Federer’s wife Mirka referred to him as a whiner back in 2014.

The time when Mirka called Wawrinka a ‘cry baby’

When Federer and his compatriot faced off in the ATP Tour Finals semi-final in 2014, Wawrinka suffered a loss against the 20-time Grand Slam champion. More than the defeat, Wawrinka didn’t appreciate the words allegedly directed towards him during the match by Mirka. The Swiss Maestro’s wife had allegedly called the 2-time Grand Slam champion “cry baby”.
