‘Surprised’ Marian Vajda Decodes Real Reason Behind Novak Djokovic’s Unexpected Split With Goran Ivanisevic

Novak Djokovic‘s former coach Marian Vajda “was quite surprised” to see the Serb’s fall out with Goran Ivanisevic. The world’s number one ATP star recently announced his split with his famous coach for six years. Attending a load of Grand Slams including this season’s Australian Open title together, Ivanisevic was “totally part of the team.”
Before Ivanisevic, this Serbian tennis legend worked with Vajda for fifteen years before they parted ways in 2021 after the ATP finals in Turin. Following Djokovic’s fallout with Ivanisevic, Vajda pointed out “the pressure that coaches have to endure” for the case.

In an exclusive interview with UBITENNIS, Djokovic’s former coach Vajda delved deeper into the Serbian tennis legend’s current situation with his coaching. About Ivanisevic’s case, Vajda commented- “Well, no, I didn’t expect that. I read about it in the newspapers like everyone else, so my opinion is based only on what I have read in the last few days. I was quite surprised because in the last few years Novak has always been comfortable with him, he was totally part of the team.”

According to Vajda, the continuous struggle of the coaches to attend professional tours with the players, make them comfortable, and help them improvise might have been a pressure for the Croatian coach. Vajda further said- “Maybe the pressure that coaches have to endure, which I mentioned before, has become too tiring for Ivanisevic as well. But I’m not sure about it.”

Nevertheless, since Djokovic officially shared the news with his fans, people are convinced that Goran Ivanisevic will no longer train the world’s number-one ATP star. However, predictions about his new coach have stormed the social media although Djokovic didn’t spill any beans about it. The Serb announced to maintain their friendship after the professional split.

Breaking the ice of confusion, Djokovic tweeted about his and Ivanisevic’s split on his social media. This world’s number one wrote- “Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid. Sefinjo, thanks for everything my friend. Love you,”

However, his fans were not satisfied as they were intrigued to know about his new coach. Djokovic’s comment expressed that he is still in a state of confusion. He said– “I still don’t have a clear idea who a new coach would be, or whether there will be one at all. I’ve had coaches since I was a kid, now I am trying to feel by myself what I need, what I feel most comfortable with. You will be informed in case someone joins the team.”
Former coach Marian Vajda’s comment on Djokovic’s split with Ivanisevic represents the Serb’s strict policy and keen attention to his team. It also represented the struggles of the coaches while training a successful tennis player.
