Wimbledon continues to unveil a surprise every day as the countdown to the slam reaches its final weekend. Among all the surprises, there is a standout one. The courts of SW19 are set to greet its finest champion in the upcoming fortnight. Roger Federer, the eight-time Wimbledon and 20-time major champion is due a surprise appearance at this year’s Wimbledon.

The Swiss Maestro missed last year’s Wimbledon owing to an injury and then went on to announce his retirement. This is going to be the first Wimbledon since the 41-year-old’s retirement and the Wimbledon chairman feels like it’s the right time to felicitate the master.

While there hasn’t been any announcement of a particular date, it is pretty certain that the Swiss Maestro will be spotted at the Centre Court in the next fortnight, according to the Express UK.

Ian Hewitt, the Wimbledon chairman said back in April via Tennis Infinity, “He is a very great champion. We have a very close association. I am delighted to say that Roger will be making a visit here as a member. He is very welcome any time. And yes, we will be celebrating his achievements in an appropriate Wimbledon way in due course.

However, the important question here is – when will Federer make an appearance at Wimbledon? It has been over two months since the announcement, but the chairman has not confirmed the exact date. Going by last year’s celebratory event and certain traditions, we could shortlist a few dates.

Wimbledon has a history of not scheduling matches on the first Sunday which changed last year. The All England Club used the opportunity to honor its finest champions over the years on its 100-year anniversary. If Wimbledon wishes to make use of the first Sunday again, we could see Roger Federer at the Centre Court on 9th July.

However, we cannot ignore the other possibilities where Federer could show up at the final for the trophy presentation or on one of the weekdays. In fact, he was recently felicitated by ATP Halle on a weekday.

There is also a sad possibility that he might not appear at all as he has already made a Wimbledon appearance this year. Last week, he recorded a short film with the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton at Wimbledon. It could be possible that the chairman was talking about the short film all this while.
