Tennis is not a sport where the nationality of a player is often taken into account, with talented players fighting each other alike. Regardless, players from the same country often travel together and develop a comradery. Americans are well-known to have groups with each other. Taylor Fritz is someone who is often seen on the tour, and he was recently interviewed as he continues to move deep into the Australian Open.

Taylor Fritz would never become roommates with Frances Tiafoe

After defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz sat down with Mason Cox, a player in the Australian Football League, for an interview. As he sat down, Fritz was asked questions about his routine now that he would go on to play in the quarterfinal. Cox also asked him about the American player he would like to see every day and the player he would enjoy being roommates with.

Okay so if I had to room with someone, I’d room with Tommy Paul, because he is one of my really good friends and he is actually like super clean, he’s a clean freak. Someone I would love to see though, everyday, is Frances. Hilarious, always a good time, but I’ve roomed with him many times before, one of the worst roommates ever. He is not the roommate you want.”

Fritz snubbed Tiafoe on account of his inability to keep his surroundings clean, but he was an individual he could see every day. He is close with both American players and even enjoyed Paul’s success in the 2023 Australian Open.

In the 2023 Australian Open, Tommy Paul managed to reach the semifinal of the tournament. At that point, all American players had been eliminated from the slam. Paul was supported by most of his compatriots, including Reilly Opelka, who gave him pointers. Paul also mentioned Taylor Fritz in an interview.

While talking about Fritz, he said, “Taylor has been sending me, like, some stupid-a** memes on Instagram. That’s about it.” Frances Tiafoe also reached out to Paul and said that he was sending him supportive messages constantly. Paul’s stint ended early this year, but he will root for his compatriot, Taylor Fritz, as he continues to play in the championship.
