Novak Djokovic powered into the US Open semi-finals after defeating Fritz last month. With this, the latter has lost all eight matches against the Serbian. Now, he also fell short against Diego Schwartzman at the Shanghai Masters. If that wasn’t enough, the tennis player couldn’t even get a good night’s sleep.

Fritz’s girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, who accompanies him to most of his matches, shared one such incident. He was at the Minhang District in Shanghai along with Riddle for the Shanghai Masters. But they encountered a nagging issue. What could it be?

Fritz and Riddle started dating back in 2020. Morgan Riddle is an avid influencer with a following of 199k people on Instagram. After facing a hiccup in their hotel room, she did what influencers do best. Riddle publicized the issue and even served her fans with not one but two solutions in her Instagram story. So how do you combat unwanted smell in your hotel room?

She wrote, “Last night, someone in a room beside us smoked cigarettes all night, so our room REEKS like an ashtray, and we can’t open the windows.”

“Just a little travel tip: most hotels have air purifiers you can request to be put in your room if there’s a bad smell or the windows don’t open. I also always travel with a candle (just for cozy vibes), but it is also helpful in cases like this.”

One can only imagine how dreadful of a night it would have been for the couple. On top of losing an important match, Fritz couldn’t even get a good night’s sleep.

The World’s No. 8 has logged many excellent moments in his career with his latest US Open run leading up to the quarter-finals. However, he was stopped short by his opponent, the reigning World No.1, Novak Djokovic. Even though he gave his best, Fritz lost with scores of 1-6, 4-6, and 4-6. His presence at the Shanghai Masters was a fresh start for the American.

Even though Fritz was doing pretty well in this race, his Argentine counterpart seemed slightly better. Diego Schwartzman defeated Fritz after battling him for three whole sets. So, putting an eye on the scorecard, it was 6-4, 3-6, and 7⁷-6⁵. This heartbreaking defeat led to Fritz’s elimination from the Shanghai Masters.

Taylor Fritz seems to be quite fortunate to have a girlfriend who cares enough about the star. On top of how she must have helped him handle his loss, she quickly found a solution to ease him inside that foul-smelling room.
