This is Fritz’s fifth appearance at this iconic event, and before the start of the tournament, he said, “What I bring is just my very positive, confident energy, my confidence to the team. I always believe that we’re going to win and we’re going to get it done. I think that I really push that feeling onto everybody and hopefully give us that reassurance and that confidence that we’re better.” Before this incredible win against the world number 3, Fritz defeated the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, by 6-3, 6-2. After the win against the Spaniard, he said, “It’s such an amazing moment. But what really does it for me is not the win itself, it’s how I played. It’s the level. It’s taking advantage of those big moments, pulling the trigger, just going out and taking it. I’m hoping this can be a sign of things to come.” But what did he say after his stunning 6-3,7-6(4) win against Zverev?
With this victory, Taylor Fritz has now helped Team World secure the Laver Cup after posting a 15-9. Team World has now won the Laver Cup three times in the last four years. Andre Agassi couldn’t have asked for a better start to his captaincy of this team. Following his sixth straight win over Zverev, Fritz sent a message to the team captain.

When Sam Querrey asked him if seeing Agassi and six teammates gives him more belief when he’s out here, he said, “Yeah, I mean, just seeing, like I said, seeing these guys on the bench getting pumped up, seeing a legend of the sport like Andre (Agassi) jumping out of the seat, cheering for me…it’s just, it’s impossible not to be so fired up and just like giving everything you have…every point.”

If we analyze this epic duel, Taylor Fritz had raced through the opening set against a weary-looking Alexander Zverev. Although the German stepped it up in the second set, he was down a break and trailing 4-3 before he finally mustered his first break points of the night. Team Europe got a ray of hope when the scoreboard leveled at 4-4 in the second set. But it didn’t take long for the American to secure what he does best against this particular opponent! What else did Fritz say after this match, though?

Taylor Fritz spills the beans about the post-match celebrations
With this win against Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz has now taken their H2H record to 9-5. The German has struggled to get past the American in the last six matches now, and following his straight-sets defeat at the Stuttgart final, Zverev even joked that he’s now “tired” of playing against Fritz. “I don’t want to see you over the next two or three years-stay away from me,” he said. But destiny had other plans…poor Sascha!
But Fritz was absolutely incredible at the Laver Cup this year. Taylor Fritz is now the first player in the history of the Laver Cup to claim multiple ATP Top-5 wins at a single edition. Do you know that this year’s Laver Cup is the first where the team losing at the end of Day 1 has gone on to win the event?

The bigger the win, the bigger the celebrations! Talking about celebrations, Fritz said, “We’re going to have a fun night. We’re definitely popping champagne in the locker room in a few minutes.” At the start of this year, we saw him helping Team USA win the United Cup, and now he has yet again excelled in another team event. Highlighting his performances in these events, Fritz admitted that he feels he plays his best tennis in team environments.
Just like every other team member, it was a wonderful experience for even Andre Agassi to take up the captaincy role for the very first time at the Laver Cup. In a recent interview with Tennis Channel, the American legend spoke a bit about this new role and his approach towards it. “I am having a great time. You know, I think what I have learned because I was asked leading up to this event, what do I expect from myself, how I am going to be, and I am like, ‘I have no idea,’” said Agassi.

He also added, “I barely know how I am going to be every day in my own life, let alone something I haven’t done before, but one thing I can absolutely tell you is I have a bottled-up competitiveness and channel that I used to just keep inside and direct at one person.” The competitiveness and energy were quite visible during the matches, and perhaps his hunger for winning the title for Team World is what might have inspired players like Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, and others to secure this incredible win.
The next edition will be held in London from September 25 to 27, 2026. Despite this win, the score is still in favor of Team Europe (5-3). Who’s your pick for the next edition, though?
