Tennis Legend Says It Took Him 2 Days to Digest Rafael Nadal’s 14th French Open Victory

Record books and Rafael Nadal are made for each other. Doing the unthinkable, the Spaniard recently wrote his name in yet another chapter of the game’s history by winning his 14th French Open and 22nd Grand Slam title.

The win invited colossal praise for the Spaniard from around the globe. While the former World No. 1 received love from his fans, it was the praise from the legends of the game that caught the world’s eye. Amongst some legendary names was the Indian tennis legend, Vijay Amritraj. The two-time singles Grand Slam quarterfinalist asserted that it took two days for him to comprehend Nadal’s accomplishment.

Vijay Amritraj’s high praise for the French Open win of Rafael Nadal

On 5th June 2022, Rafael Nadal outplayed Casper Ruud in a largely one-sided battle to clinch his 14th French Open title. The win was followed by the entire tennis community taking to their social media handles to praise the champion. However, that was not the case with Vijay Amritraj.

Instead of praising Nadal on the day of the win, Vijay Amritraj was one of the last ones to sing the praise of the Spanish sensation. Taking to his Twitter handle yesterday, the former World No. 18 applauded Nadal for his win.

He wrote, “It has taken me two days to try and digest what Rafa Nadal has done. Just when you think the human spirit cannot be pushed any further he’s shown more than the impossible.Great is not good enough. It’s just magic! Stay well Rafa.We need you to continue to dream the impossible.”

Apart from Amritraj, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Andy Roddick, and many others, also expressed their congratulatory messages.

After winning the Australian Open and the French Open, the next in line for the Nadal is the Wimbledon Championship. However, the tennis world will have to wait for a few days to get a clear picture of Nadal’s participation. Struggling with a persistent foot issue, Nadal played with anesthetic injections during his French Open campaign.
