He stated: “I was there in Wimbledon and I saw both semifinals, both players playing very well in their semifinals, but I was never in doubt that Djokovic was going to win that tournament. But yeah, somehow Alcaraz played an unbelievable match. Maybe Djokovic got a little bit tight at some moments, which is something that’s unusual for him. But yeah, it was a great match. Great thing for tennis because I think tennis was the winner of that final. I have so many people that when I saw them I said, how did you see that final, it was amazing. So it’s great for tennis to have Djokovic, let’s call him the old guy now, and then Alcaraz the young kid that’s coming up now and that rivalry now can be something over the next one or two years, three years that can really lift up tennis again.”

Muller’s narrative extended even beyond the court. He envisioned it as a revived rivalry between the “old guy” Djokovic and the emerging “young kid” Alcaraz. As Muller put it, this rivalry has the potential to breathe new life into tennis.
