Talking about Federer, the 7 singles Grand Slam champion compared him to another tennis legend who he has always idolized as a player. McEnroe further revealed that for him Roger is an updated version of the Australian tennis legend, Rod Laver.

John McEnroe previously lavished praise on Roger Federer

Speaking about the Swiss tennis Maestro, McEnroe was previously featured in a video conference as part of his duties for the renowned sports platform ESPN. Meanwhile, the former American tennis player gave his views on the tennis community ‘missing’ Roger Federer after his decision to put down his racket in the previous season.

However, McEnroe said that the fans should look on the bright side of things. He added that the tennis community has witnessed Federer’s miraculous performances for more than a decade. So, now the fans should let him decide whatever he’s happy with. McEnroe further applauded the Swiss for his “amazing” journey on the tennis court.

While praising the 41-year-old, he said, “Roger Federer is a living legend. We all know that. He’s the epitome of what you would want your kid to be when they grow up.”

Later, the American called Roger  an updated version of Rod Laver, the Australian tennis legend. McEnroe has always regarded Laver as a tennis icon and has always idolized him.

Now that the Swiss tennis legend is not there on the tour, a lot of things have changed for his legion of fans. The same is true for the former Italian tennis player, Adriano Panatta who has been immensely missing Federer and his mesmerizing performances on the court.

Panatta further opened up about his feelings towards the sport after Federer’s retirement. Talking about it, the Italian tennis legend believes a lot of “things have changed” with the former tennis ace moving away from the court. Adriano added now that Federer is not there, he follows the game much less as now there is too much stardom on the court.
