The rigorous laws in the US restricted the 36-year-old player from entering the country, leading to his withdrawals from various events, including the hard court major in New York.

Now, with the relaxation of the vaccination rules, the Serbian tennis star is once again back at the Grand Slam event in the Big Apple. It just so happened that a significant attendance record was broken just around the time he returned to the competition. Taking heed, a flurry of fans took to social media to attribute Djokovic as the major force behind this remarkable feat in the tennis circuit.

Fans hail Novak Djokovic for breaking Serena Williams’ US Open attendance record

Christopher Clarey, the renowned sports journalist, recently reported that the ongoing US Open had set another single-day attendance record of 73,007 spectators. He tweeted, “The #US Open broke another single-day attendance record today: 73,007 fans. Breaks Monday’s record of 72,957”.

Prior to this, the second-highest single-day attendance was marked in the previous edition of the tournament. According to an official report from the US Open, a total of 71,332 spectators were there on a single day of the event. It also includes 29,402 fans who were there for the ‘Queen of the Court,’ Serena Williams‘ first round match against Danka Kovinic in her farewell tournament.

The entire tennis realm reacted in a flutter, hailing Novak Djokovic as the primary cause of the surge in spectator numbers. While amassing 95 ATP singles titles, the Serb has already pulled off a number of remarkable feats on the court.

Now, the fans are asserting that the 36-year-old is further breaking records off the court as well. One of the users said, “Djokovic is breaking all the  @usopen attendance records on all the days that he is playing. People are finally being able to appreciate his greatness both on and off court. 👏”

While lavishing praise on the ‘Djoker,’ a fan lashed out at the authorities in the US, accusing them of disrespecting the current world No.2  for his unvaccinated status. He commented, “The Djokovic Effect! USO is over-commercialized, as the entire USA is. They maximally use (& abuse) Djokovic for that purpose & yet don’t treat him with gratitude & respect but only with envy & resentment.”

Similarly, another user vented his frustrations over the strict laws in the US that prevented the Serb from competing in various events.

In the comments section, a fan didn’t hold himself back from hailing the ATP player as the ‘GOAT,’  “Now that they allowed the GOAT back, of course it was going to be crowded! 💪👑”

Answering the Serb’s naysayers, another user commented, “Nole braking record attendance!!! Cryyyy hatersss”

Djokovic’s absence on US soil was deeply felt by a fan who said, “We missed #Djokovic #djokovic𓃵 !!!”
