Boris Becker believed that Carlos Alcaraz couldn’t develop his skills like others

While Becker believed that Djokovic’s amazing performance made him a truly elite sportsman of this time, Alcaraz couldn’t evolve more. Now fans also witnessed Alcaraz’s setback during the ATP tournament against Djokovic, they find Boris Becker’s comment more appropriate. Becker said- “Why is that? Duelling with Djokovic, becoming No. 1 in the world and winning Wimbledon for the first time – maintaining this level is the most difficult thing in tennis,” This remark seemed true because Alcaraz’s performance that brought him a second Grand Slam win this year couldn’t persist enough to help in the 2023 ATP tournament.

Becker also added how other players identified Alcaraz’s strategies to play against him and develop their skills. Now, this clearly wasn’t visible in the Spanish 2023 Wimbledon winner. Boris Becker said-“My favourite saying in this context is: ‘The locker room never sleeps’. It means that the other players have realised how you have to play against Alcaraz to have a chance against him. That’s what happened. Other players have developed and Alcaraz hasn’t.”

Novak Djokovic dropped his praise for Carlos Alcaraz after facing him off at the Nitto ATP 2023 tournament

Boris Becker’s comment about Alcaraz might have hurt the fans but they should know the world’s number-one tennis player still keeps a lot of hope about Alcaraz’s excellence. In a press conference after the ATP tournament, Djokovic commented- “Carlos, Jannik, & Holger are the big three.. the next big three, if you want to call them. They are going to carry this sport.” Now receiving compliments from Novak Djokovic is really not a mere thing.

Boris Becker’s comment is a lesson for Alcaraz to understand how players need to always improvise to remain in form. However, Novak’s compliment should assure his fans that he is truly a worthy opponent. But at times, skilled players also go through bad days. That match against Djokovic might not have been a fruitful one but that doesn’t mean Carlos Alcaraz won’t bounce back as a great tennis star in the coming season. What do you think?
