Legendary tennis player Roger Federer had many rivalries with many players over the years. One such rivalry was with the former American tennis player, James Blake. Although it was mostly one-sided, Blake did manage to get one important win against the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Recently, the American tennis star posted a photo of that match, as he showed great respect for the Swiss player.

James Blake remembers his winning moment against Roger Federer

After meeting Blake for the first time in the 2003 US Open, Federer won eight consecutive matches against the former American player. However, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he shocked everyone by beating the Swiss Maestro in straight sets.

Remembering that famous victory, Black recently tweeted, “So much respect for Roger. One of the best days of my career to get one win (out of 10 tries) against him. And to do it with USA on my chest was even more special.”

Then, a fan retweeted this and said, “Great match.. great tennis era… We miss both of you.”

In reply, Blake gave a hilarious response. He said, “I think one of us will be back. The other one is old, bald and has no backhand or serve anymore. @rogerfederer.”

Notably, Blake said goodbye to tennis in 2013. Whereas, Federer is continuing his tennis career even at the age of 40. Blake won only one of their 11 bouts, that too at the Beijing Olympics quarter-final, denying the Swiss Maestro the Gold medal.

Federer is not far away from his sensational return to tennis

Recently, the 20-time Grand Slam champion started practicing again in the gym. Earlier, he posted a few photos and videos of his training. Federer last played at last year’s Wimbledon, where he suffered an embarrassing defeat against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-final. Since then, he underwent knee surgery, which made him unavailable for the rest of the season.

After his recent posts, fans are getting pretty excited to see him on the tennis court soon, possibly at Wimbledon this year. Earlier, he talked about aiming for the grass-court season. However, it will be tough for him to recover fully before the Wimbledon, even though he started his practice recently.
