One of the most promising youngsters in the game who also happens to be a Roger Federer fanboy, recently opened up on taking on the top-ranked players. Much like his idol Federer, the 20-year-old prodigy is fearless and not afraid of the best players in the world. His record is enough to back his statement as the youngster is already ranked 6th in the world. But who is this talent in question?

The youngster in question is none other than the young Dane Holger Rune. Coached by Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, Rune has achieved plenty of success on the tour recently. He has big titles and big wins to his name already and he keeps improving with every game.

How does the Roger Federer fanboy deal with top players?

Rune showed immense confidence while talking about his record against the top players. When asked about the recent world number 1s – Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, Rune said via FirstSportz “I defeated all 3 players. Novak in Paris and Rome, Carlos in Paris with a withdrawal in the deciding tie-break, and Medvedev in Monte Carlo. Their rank makes no difference in how I play. But for sure you know you need a lot of focus playing these guys. It’s not easy to win the points.”

Holger Rune’s confidence is entirely justified given his record against the top players. He follows his idol Roger Federer’s footsteps towards a strong record against the ATP top 5.

Holger Rune’s staggering record against the top-ranked players

The Dane has a 7-3 win-loss record against players ranked in the top 5 of the ATP rankings. The seven wins also formed a streak where he did not lose a single match against the top 5. His idol Roger Federer also maintained a terrific statistic against the top 5 where the Swiss Maestro registered 104 wins in 179 matches. Only Novak Djokovic has registered more wins against the same in men’s tennis history.
