Prior to his defeat at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the current Wimbledon campaign, a video of his maternal grandparents reacting to his win surfaced. Roy Erskine and Eileen Shirley looked back at their grandson winning the tournament, according to a report by the Daily Mail UK.

Erskine recalled a picture taken soon after Murray’s win, where the player walked up to his mother in the stands. He called the picture something his family remembers often.

“There’s a picture that the whole family just think an awful lot of,” Erskine said. “It’s Andy coming up towards the players box to greet what eventually turned out to be his mum.”

Further, he remembered the state of Scotland after Murray was crowned the winner of the grass slam. As he drove in his car, he could not spot a soul for miles. Everyone was busy watching Murray’s presentation.

What amazed me here was that here was Andy winning Wimbledon and I was out in a car trawling Dunblane and there wasn’t a soul to be seen,” he said. “Everybody had gone and watched and we’re still watching the presentations and all this.”

He further explained that it was as if the town was occupied by ghosts. “There was nobody in Dunblane. It was like a ghost town.”
