Stan Wawrinka reveals why he wants to play after a long injury

The 36-year-old wants to make a comeback by the French Open, after being out for a major part of the last season due to injuries. He opened up on why he wants to be back on the tennis courts.

Wawrinka said, “People often ask me why I try to come back from injury and return, but it’s because tennis is a passion, I love the public. There are a lot who forget this when they turn professional—they take tennis too much like work. What motivates me and pushes me still is I tell myself I’m going to play—that I’m going to have fun.”

Wawrinka’s absence from the tour

The former World No. 3 last played at the Qatar Open in March last year. Subsequently, he suffered a foot injury that has kept him out of action since. He underwent surgery and has been focused on his recovery and rehabilitation. His absence from tennis has severely affected his rankings. He has dropped to Number 171 on the ATP rankings chart.
