Tennis legends like Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras may not be playing professionally anymore, but the 90s tennis era was a memorable one. While every aspect of their playing style caught attention, their on-court rivalry was something that also spiced up the game. Although it has been a long time since they both hung up their rackets for good, Andy Roddick recently revisited some heated moments.

Former American tennis pro Andy Roddick’s latest podcast saw him looking back to his own era, where he revealed the angle of differences that made it hard for Agassi and Sampras to get along with each other, especially in accommodations during tournaments.

Recalling his days when he used to be a practice partner for both Agassi and Sampras, Roddick unveiled intriguing details about their interactions during team events. “They were barely in the same room,” Roddick stated, highlighting the visible detachment between Agassi and Sampras during competitions.

According to Roddick, this disparity in the relationship shared between them was evident even during team events, such as the Davis Cup. “That was the tie where Pete Andre, Johnny Mac, like basically the entire team, no one stayed together low and stayed in the same hotel,” Roddick mentioned, indicating a lack of cohesion within the team.

Along with their on-court rivalry, the off-court dynamics between Agassi and Sampras reflected contrasting personalities leading to differences between the two. As Roddick, who closely examined everything, came forward to open up about the events, it surely became a point for the fans to refresh their memories of the rivalry.

Andre Agassi reckoning Pete Sampras as a tough rival

After being a part of an intense on-court rivalry that the whole tennis world enjoyed, Andre Agassi didn’t step back from accepting the fact that Pete Sampras was one of the toughest competitors during his era. Back in 2023, Agassi noted the fact that his career could have been much better if Sampras wasn’t in his way.

“Well, my career would have been way better off without Pete for sure,” he said. Although both the tennis legends together share 22 grand slam titles, a majority of them were hard fought, with both these forces standing strong against each other to level up their own glory. However, now that they have rested their racket, their on-court rivalry remains to be a part of the tennis history.
