Monfils overcame a 0-4 deficit to defeat Baez in five sets, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5. After the incredible comeback, the French tennis star dropped onto the court as emotion overcame him.

For the past few months, the 36-year-old tennis player has been struggling with his form on the tour in such a way that he was struggling to make any kind of impact in tournaments. But now, with his amazing first-round victory at the French Open, the tennis star is all set to showcase his talent in his home Grand Slam event.

After the victory Monfils made a heartwarming gesture during the custom of writing something on the camera. According to the camera picture shared by The Tennis Letter on Twitter, the former world number 6 wrote his daughter’s name, ‘Skaï’ on the camera.

Nevertheless, that was not the only emotional moment that happened after the match. A former French tennis star was also present to witness the emotional comeback victory of Monfils. Marion Bartoli, who interviewed her countryman after the match, shared how she was pretty confident regarding how the 36-year-old would make a comeback even after losing the fourth set terribly.

She said, “I’ve known you for almost 24 years since you were 14. You were losing this last set, but I was sure you’d come back. You did it. You did it.”

Monfils broke down after claiming the incredible victory 

Even the former world no.6 was visibly moved after the match. As he won the match point, Monfils literally burst into tears and collapsed on the court.

The Tennis Channel posted a video of him using his triumph to channel his emotions. In that clip, he can be seen plainly lying on the court with tears in his eyes as he gave his all in the match.
