For an ambitious player like Gael, this innovative event provides an excellent opportunity to make an impact on the global tennis stage.
However, Monfils surely has different expectations when it comes to tennis tournaments. In a recent interview before the match, he was asked about what he would like to change. And his answer was, “Well trash talk. I wish we could trash talk a little bit more. I think some players, I don’t want to take names, but they are a little soft on the tour. It would be more fun if we could trash talk.”
Not only did he expect players to include more trash talk in their interviews, but also took a dig at certain ‘soft’ players whose names he did not take. This was an unexpected answer for all the players and fans at the site of the interview and for the people watching as well.

Gael was back to his best during his first match at UTS
After missing Wimbledon 2023 due to an injury, Gael has now been given the chance to prove himself again. In his first match against Frances Tiafoe, Monfils won, but not before showcasing his renowned showmanship on the court. During his match, the Frenchman jokingly threatened to confront a fan who was taunting him from the stands. Monfils raced to the stands and almost jumped into the spectators’ stands. However, after the match, Monfils turned to the fan and gave him a souvenir.
