Never let your inner child die. 46-time ATP winner Andy Murray took that phrase quite seriously. Ahead of his match, Murray engaged in playful antics. Humorously interacting with the umpire’s chair is definitely a good alternative for training. In his first match at the Shanghai Masters, Andy stood against Roman Safiullin. The British player surely knows how to have fun.

A video of Murray has fans in complete awe. Despite his age, the 36-year-old chooses the adolescent act with pride. His opponent for the match, Roman was a tough challenger & he proved so by beating him in straight sets. However, Murray having fun just before the match showed his relaxed nature after his peak years in the past.

Watching professional athletes having fun on camera is always ecstatic. Andy is known to be a jolly guy among his peers. Yet, it’s interesting that he did this right before the qualifiers. Using an umpire chair merely for amusement is something only Andy can pull off.

What’s funny is the way he inspects the chair before climbing in it. Murray went higher in the chair looking around as if someone was coming to stop him. To his surprise, no one did. Andy seemed quite happy during the whole adventure. He even checks the mic to see if it’s even working. This clip is a gift from Murray to all the fans.

Murray in Shanghai Masters

Murray aimed to conclude his time in China on a positive note, but he ended up with a 1-2 record across his matches in Zhuhai and Beijing. In Shanghai, Murray faced a formidable opponent in Safiullin during the first round. The Russian player, who recently made it to his first tour final and entered the top 50 rankings, posed a significant challenge for Murray.

In the first round of the Shanghai Masters, the Briton faced his third successive loss and was eliminated. Roman Safiullin secured a decisive victory in just an hour and 39 minutes, defeating the three-time former champion with a score of 6-3, 6-2.  Safiullin delivered a strong performance, securing a break against the world No. 40 for the second time and clinching the set 6-3 in just 46 minutes.

Murray is set to participate in the ATP 500 event in Tokyo starting on October 16. To achieve his aim of ending the year positively, he’ll have to rebound from his recent setbacks in China.
