The disgraced tennis ace Boris Becker often managed to remain a dignified and eminent figure on the ATP Tour throughout his remarkable journey. But it has not been the case since the German tennis legend put down his racket. During his stay in the UK, the 55-year-old got embroiled in a series of controversies after he breached the bankruptcy rules of the country.

He further faced imprisonment over the same. Although he was deported to Germany, the ‘scary’ phase he experienced in the British prison is something that he still hasn’t forgotten. Talking about the same, Becker has recently revealed how his cell was surrounded by murderers and smugglers.

Boris Becker opens up about the scary phase in the British prison
The 55-year-old tennis legend is back in his home country after he was released from Huntercombe prison. In Germany, the former tennis ace recently sat down for an interview with The Financial Times to open up about his plight after he was imprisoned. Boris Becker reminisced about the dark phase when he used to spend most of his days in the cell.

He also revealed that it used to be a bawling atmosphere outside his cell. It was scary, as there were many criminals raging and banging on the door. The German tennis legend was surrounded by a number of murderers and other criminals next to his cell, despite in the ‘safe’ section of the British prison.

However, the thought of staying close to a murderer was still frightening for the Tennis Hall of Famer. Talking about the same, Becker said, “At first, you’re scared, because this guy killed two people with his hands, he’s already doing 18 years. Imagine! He becomes your buddy.”

Becker was terrorized by his inmate in prison
This is not the first time that the 6-time Grand Slam champion has opened up about his plight during his imprisonment in the UK. During an old interview, Becker made a surprising revelation about a frightening incident involving his inmate. The Tennis Hall of Famer said that one of the prisoners wanted his valuables and threatened to kill him. Apart from this, Becker also talked about the bland prison food that mostly included rice and potatoes.
