Serena Williams has had intense rivalries with many players throughout her career. Jennifer Capriati, Victoria Azarenka and her sister Venus Williams were some of the players who were on the list. Serena has always been the dominant player in all of her rivalries. However, it can be safely said that Maria Sharapova was her most intense, if not the most challenging, rival in her career. With an incredible head-to-head record of 20-2 in Williams’ favor, people would expect a lot of bad blood to exist between the two. But over time, the two have become friends and recently reunited at an event which has fans delighted.
Maria Sharapova faced off against Serena Williams for the first time in the Miami Masters in 2004, with American star triumphing over the Russian. Ever since then, a scathing rivalry existed between the two, which was eventually resolved.
