Just as Tommy Paul began hitting his stride on clay, a bizarre off-court twist added an unexpected chapter to his Italian Open run. The narrative originates with his consecutive-set victory against Hubert Hurkacz in the Italian Open quarterfinals; the American unexpectedly revealed the repossession of his Ford F-150 resulting from delinquent payments. And now, with Roland Garros around the corner, Paul reveals the wild accusations that followed him throughout the incident. Want to know what he said?
Speaking a couple of hours ago during the Tennis Channel podcast, the American added, “We got it back. Frank went and picked it up,” he added. He later also told the full story behind the unexpected towing. “I mean, if you all want the full story, well, I switched over to Goldman Sachs and I didn’t set up the auto payment and, you know, I was getting a bunch of calls from Ford and I missed six calls from them,” he added.
“And then I answered one and they were like, ‘We have a promotion available; you can get a new year of your truck if you trade in yours,’ and I was like, ‘I’m not interested,’ and then I kept getting a million calls. I thought they were trying to get me to do this promotion, but really they were just trying to get payments,” Paul continued.

While talking to the podcast, he also revealed how he got to know about the towing incident. “I’m talking to Franco, and Franco’s like, ‘Oh, check if you have any packages at your house; I’ll go pick them up, and I check the cameras;’ there’s no package and no truck. It was midnight. I couldn’t believe it—so sneaky, right? I mean, you know… I think I had like 800 or 900 bucks left to pay on the car; I owned 99% of the car.” And right after that, the 28-year-old has finally shed light on the towing saga and the chaos it caused off the court.

While looking at all the speculations made on social media about the incident, he also shared how amazed he was by some comments about the whole incident. “It’s amazing how many people are online now thinking that I have like a gambling problem or something, and I actually don’t have money to pay off my truck.”
Well, the incident took place a couple of days ago at the Italian Open. In the aftermath of his QF match win, Paul made an unexpected announcement concerning his personal life. “On court, everything has been going pretty well. Off court, a little bit of a stressful week. I got my truck repossessed. I missed a couple of payments and they took my truck from my house this week. I’ve been grinding to get my truck back. If you know me, that’s my baby.” His beloved Ford F-150 was towed from his home in Boca Raton, Florida, but his strong run in Rome lifted not just his mood but also his bank balance as well.
The American later also shared that he had already settled the $1,000 recovery fee to reclaim his treasured vehicle. “I already paid it back. A grand. I have my trainer going to pick it up today. Ford took it back. I’m excited to get it back. I had to win a couple matches so I could pay that off.”
And while recounting the true events, Paul also encountered a significant defeat from Jannik Sinner on Italian clay recently, after which he departed from the Italian Open with a broken heart. Later, his girlfriend, Paige, who offered him support, comforted Tommy Paul before he headed towards the French Open.
