Daniil Medvedev’s inhaler enigma unveiled

In the post-match interview, when asked about his breathing difficulties, Medvedev candidly admitted, “Yeah, the thing is I don’t think it worked because I kind of don’t know how to use it. I don’t think it worked. But I’m not sure.” The “thing” in question? An inhaler.

Medvedev, known for his wacky humor, had previously joked about using one but took a serious turn as he struggled to breathe in the sweltering New York heat inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium. “Yeah, it was very tough to breathe in the beginning for me,” he admitted.

As the match went on, Medvedev’s breathing problems became more obvious. “I think I never changed that many T-shirts and that many towels during the match,” he remarked. Even though he was aware of the inhaler, he hadn’t realized its potential until that pivotal moment in the match.

Still, despite his physical struggles, Medvedev showed his mental strength, mentioning that he served well throughout the match, ultimately turning things in his favor. The final score was 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 in his favor, proving his ability to adapt and conquer challenges. But this victory not only carried Medvedev to his QF challenge, which is pitting him against his close friend and compatriot, Andrey Rublev.

Friendship on the line: Medvedev vs. Rublev

When asked how he felt about the fact that he is going to be pitted against his best friend, Medvedev said, “I think we’re really close friends. I think we have a great relationship even if on the court we’re big competitors. I think nothing is going to, let’s call it, come between us to separate us in real life. We’re really close.”

So, as we watch the Medvedev-Rublev showdown unfurl, we’re left with a lingering question: Will the mysterious inhaler make another appearance, or will Medvedev rely on his natural talent to propel him forward?
