‘Trying to Compete Against My Generation’- Stefanos Tsitsipas on Expectations Similar to Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

Tennis players Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have grabbed a majority of the headlines over the past couple of decades. The tennis displayed by these amazing athletes has been incomparable to any other player. 

It is unusual to see three athletes in the same era win 20 Grand Slam titles each. Fans of this generation have been blessed to see the greatness of the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic were ahead in their time

Recently, Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas reflected on being compared to the three greats. He did accept that when the big three were his age, they were winning Grand Slams and the big titles regularly. However, he did state he was only looking at being the best amongst players in his generation.

Speaking on this subject, the Greek stated“I am not thinking about this right now, to be honest with you. I’m trying to compete against my generation more than against them. Also simply because Rafa was one of the few of them that participated in the last tournaments. That you don’t know, it won’t last that long. I’m trying to be the best of my generation as much as I can, not concentrate too much on what’s happening with the elder guys.”

Coming to the big three, the Swiss maestro was the first player to win 20 Grand Slam titles. Nadal was the first man to win 21 Grand Slam titles and the Serb was the first player to win every Major at least twice.

Improvement with time for Stefanos Tsitsipas 

Speaking on Tsitsipas, he reached his first Major final at the French Open last season. He won his first ATP Masters 1000 title too last year. We are still in the early days of this season. And it will be interesting to see how he performs as the seasons go by.

Coming to the big three, Federer was recently seen picking a racquet and hitting a few shots, which was a pleasant sight for fans in a long time.
