She elaborated on what the bond was between the two during their time together in her latest documentary, Pretty Baby.

She said that he was an intense personality, and she was used to this since her mother was an alcoholic and a domineering figure in her life. Shields, in the documentary, revealed that the couple never discussed the mood swings and the erratic behavior that Agassi would have. She added that the two never should’ve married.

While talking about her relationship with the 8-time Grand Slam champion, she said, “I thought he’s an intense personality, and yet because I was so used to this. Growing up with an alcoholic whose moods would change, the erratic behavior, I didn’t know what was going on. I mean, we hardly ever spoke about it again. A few years later, we got divorced. We should’ve just been friends; I don’t think we should’ve been husband and wife. We weren’t meant to be each other’s lifelong partners or parents of children, you know.”

Shields has gone through many traumatic events in her life. Something that could’ve been a solace for her became just another form of trauma. But Shields has come out the other side as a strong woman. She is in a good marriage with Chris Henchy and has two daughters with him.

Her documentary is aimed at motivating people who were in the same situation to come forward and fight back.
