Holger Rune, the 20-year-old tennis sensation from Denmark, and Stan Wawrinka, the veteran from Switzerland, have been at loggerheads over the past few months. But just when they seemed to have buried the hatchet, now Rune reignited the verbal fight with Wawrinka by giving a controversial interview.
He criticized Wawrinka for his actions and one can easily see that even after seven long months after the issue between these two first began, it stays afresh in Rune’s mind. Rune is becoming controversy’s favorite child in men’s tennis and wherever he goes he seems to attract problems and criticisms from fans and former players alike.

What exactly was the problem and how did it get reignited?
The feud between Wawrinka and Rune started in November of last year, when Rune won a tight three-setter in the Paris Masters. While shaking hands at the net, Wawrinka told Rune,” My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court”. In March of this year, during Indian Wells, Wawrinka won the encounter in tight three sets and while shaking hands, Rune asked Wawrinka, “Do you have anything to say now?”, and Wawrinka replied,” What do you want me to say?”.
Nick Kyrgios, last year’s Wimbledon finalist came out in support of Holger Rune, with an Instagram Story that read, “Hahahaha no problem when you win…typical. Holger Rune, with you my brother.”

In a recent interview with The Times, reported by Express UK, when asked about the ongoing problem, he said, “I was surprised. Some players when they lose, they get a little unbalanced. I guess that’s what happened”. Thus, Rune took an indirect aim at Wawrinka and the situation looked far from over.

Tennis’ bad boys- Holger Rune and Nick Kyrgios
Holger Rune has already made some headlines for all the bad reasons and he is only 20. In this year’s Madrid Open where Rune played against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, in a very closely competed first set, he hit a second serve which was called in, but when Fokina raised doubts of the accuracy of the call, Rune erased the ball mark before the umpire Carlos Bernardes could check. Thus, he attracted the wrath of the crowd and the umpire Bernardes also gave a lengthy lecture to Rune for his behavior.
As for Kyrgios who supported Rune against Wawrinka, he and Wawrinka have a bitter history. It all started in 2015 in the Canada Masters when Kyrgios said, “Kokkinakis b****d your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate.” Unfortunately for Kyrgios, he was fined a hefty amount of $10000 as it was picked up by the microphones. Wawrinka later retorted, “So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine. What was said I wouldn’t say to my worst enemy. To stoop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief.”
