Sponsorship is quite common for players who reach a good enough stage. Some companies chase players who are performing well or show an immense level of talent for the future. However, few players reach the stage where they are aggressively pursued by a plethora of corporations. Grigor Dimitrov, formerly in the top 5 of the ATP, is one of the few lucky players. Although he already had a sponsor, he found a new one and announced his partnership in grand fashion.

The Bulgarian player has dropped a bit in ranks ever since he reached a career-high of 3 in 2017. However, his popularity hasn’t diminished as many companies still seek him for endorsement opportunities. Previously sponsored by Nike, Dimitrov’s apparel will now have the symbol of a crocodile, as he will now endorse Lacoste.

In a press conference, media personnel asked Dimitrov about his new sponsors. The line of questioning reffered to his dressing sense and whether he would adapt the symbol of the brand to his play style. The Bulgarian replied in the affirmative and said that he was still coming to grips with the partnership. He also added that he was ready to step onto the court, donning the clothes of the well-established brand.

I think it’s safe to say yes. I’m fairly new to that, so I’m getting my grip around it. I’m very excited about that partnership. I mean, Lacoste is one of the oldest well-known brands, so I’m very obviously honored to be part of that humble family, so to speak. I think it’s very intriguing to me, very interesting to me in the same time. As I said, it’s nice to have also like a new beginning. I mean, I’m not gonna hide my excitement, as well,” he said.

Referencing a song from Sir Elton John, the interviewer called it “The croc that rocks“. The Bulgarian player loved the slogan and added that the Crocs will rock from Bulgaria now. He further added that he feels very comfortable in the outfit and that it suits his style.

The croc that rocks. There you go. The croc that rocks from Bulgaria now. That’s going to be a good one (smiling). I hope that sticks out. And, you know, I feel very comfortable in the outfit. I think it suits my personality, suits my style. Now this is the good side, and we’re going to show the rock ‘n roll maybe a little later. Time will tell the rest.”
