If there is an award for being the most straightforward player on the tour, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios would be the top contender. Although he has been phenomenal on-court this year, he somehow manages to get in trouble. Recently, the tennis player expressed his thoughts regarding the new rules of the ATP but fans seem to not agree with his opinion.

The 27-year-old got the reward of his persistence and made it to his first Grand Slam final earlier this year. However, if we look at the rankings, he still stands at 22. The Australian recently took to his Twitter account and expressed his disappointment regarding the same. Here’s what happened next.
Fans slam Nick Kyrgios after he called out ATP for the ranking system
In a post from the ‘Tennis Channel’, Kyrgios stepped on the current Universal Tennis Rankings. Here we can see Kyrgios stands only behind Djokovic at number two. However, if we have a look at the ATP rankings, the Aussie is not even in the top ten.
IVE SAID IT BEFORE. THE CURRENT RANKING SYSTEM IS BASED ON CONSISTENCY & HOW MUCH YOU PLAY. NOT SKILL & FORM 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ https://t.co/KOUVDXuJka

Expressing his disappointment, the 27-year-old wrote, “IVE SAID IT BEFORE. THE CURRENT RANKING SYSTEM IS BASED ON CONSISTENCY & HOW MUCH YOU PLAY. NOT SKILL & FORM”.
This did not go down well with fans who thought the Aussie is indirectly taking a dig at Djokovic’s ATP rankings. Here’s how they reacted.
yes, the atp wants atp players to play atp events https://t.co/ncZyjDcjuS

“Not skill and form” 😭 Almost everyone who’s ranked higher than you actually takes what they do seriously and work hard for that ranking instead of whining about rankings online all day long. Please be serious 🤡 https://t.co/rSnEvGjmUv

what else would it be based on? like how stupid are you? https://t.co/vwo22Dspct

A few fans were confused about the logic Kyrgios was trying to imply.
consistency is literally dependent on skill and form u fucking donkey 😭 https://t.co/SqVjzutXEF
— nic (@NlCSF) December 12, 2022
Isn’t consistency literally about skill and form 😭 https://t.co/rZ47dUlbRs

Another fan came up with a detailed explanation of why the rankings were working just fine.
No way you deserves to be above Carlos, Nadal, and Ruud because of computer calculation. You've had a good run at Wimbledon and a decent run at US Open, that was it. Rafa dropped form after Wimbledon and he's still better than you in that period. https://t.co/cihQAY1jck

Ah, yes. Consistency. That most undesirable of sporting qualities. https://t.co/eBS3R1F9GV

What do you want Nick?
ATP Rankings
ATP Race Rankings
ATP Talent Competition Rankings?
ATP 'What Kyrgios Thinks' Rankings?Reward those players that play tournaments. That's what I say.
— Chris Goldsmith (@TheTennisTalker) December 12, 2022
One of Kyrgios’ own supporters came up with a very genuine and logical question.
NK, massive fan and supporter here. just curious why you think it should be based on anything else? Why are you supposed to be rewarded with higher seeds at tournaments if you don’t prove you are consistently beating top players – not just that you have the ability to. Thoughts?
— bobbyboucher (@GabeGG9) December 12, 2022
Yes sweetie, you can't just play random tournaments and expect to be top 5

Kyrgios’ performance this year
Nick Kyrgios had an above-average year and the stripping of ranking points for Wimbledon definitely dented his rankings. The 27-year-old was the finalist in the grass-court Grand Slam. Further, the Aussie also continued his good form in the US Open and made it to the quarterfinals.
If we compare parallelly, Djokovic also missed out on most of the tournaments this year. However, the 35-year-old performed exceedingly well in the ones in which he participated. He also clinched the ATP Finals title at the year’s end, after failing to defend the Paris Masters title as he lost to Holger Rune in the finals.
